
Board-certified psychiatrist Carol Powell, MD, has joined the Winona Health Behavioral Health staff.
Dr. Powell will provide outpatient mental health services including medication management and follow-up care for adults through Winona Health Psychiatric & Counseling Services beginning October 20, 2011. Dr. Powell's areas of expertise are in the treatment of depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, and schizo-affective disorder. Dr. Powell also will provide treatment to those struggling with eating disorders who are actively involved in treatment with a therapist or other professional eating disorder issues support system.
"Dr. Powell brings extensive experience and education to effectively care for adult patients through our outpatient counseling services," noted John Rislove, Winona Health's director of Behavioral Health Services.
Dr. Powell is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry. She received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She completed her residency in the Department of Psychiatry at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Dr. Powell also completed a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
